In the spring and summer of 2015, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at the University of Oregon in Eugene presented the special exhibition Rick Bartow: Things You Know But Cannot Explain. Featuring nearly forty years of the artist’s work in a range of media – drawings, paintings, sculpture, prints and mixed media—the exhibition and accompanying catalog honored one of Oregon’s most important contemporary artists and one of our nation’s most significant Native American artists. During the exhibition, thanks to a grant from the Ford Family Foundation Exhibition and Documentation Support grant, we were able to capture these insights from the artist.
