I firs saw the Mk12 back in the late 90 's it was a rilfe at the time that i cold not afford but i new someday i would own one. There is a ton of info on the MK12 platform. I really can be a rabbit hole of information. However, even though the history on the rile and its intended use during the GWOT is a bit dated, like all things in the gun biz, the SPR aka Special Purpose rilfe, is in full swing. And the MK12 is the OG to them all.
