0:00 - Introduction to How to Spot Easy Backlink Opportunities with Semrush
0:27 - What you will need
The first thing we'll need today is a website to look up in Semrush and then the second thing we will need is a Semrush account.
So for today's video, we're gonna be using this website that I randomly stumbled upon called the trustyspotter.com.
1:06 - Digging into Semrush
Log into your Semrush account and then put in the site that you are working on or a competitor of yours.
From here, access the left hand panel and go into the backlink analytics section. This is where you will get a summary of all the things going on with your sites.
In the case of trustypotter.com, we can see that it has an authority score of 48. It got tons of referring domains, close to 4,000, in fact, and it got a lot of things going on across the board that are good here in that you can see how the monthly visits are 336,000 in the estimate.
1:43 - Digging into the backlink section of Semrush
What we really care about here is looking at the do-follow links. The reason why is because do-follow links are what actually pass SEO juice down into the rest of your website.
So in the case where you have a ton of no-follow links, it doesn't really matter and it doesn't really help your site in terms of authority in the eyes of Google.
2:26 - How to use Semrush advanced filter section
From here, what you're gonna do in the filter dropdown is you're gonna look for the link placement in the content.
The reason why I want you to select this field is because when you select that it is in the content, what this means is that you are telling Semrush, I want you to find places where my site is being linked back to, and it's within the body content of that post.
3:57 - Filtering down the sites that are linking back to our site
At a high level, what we're trying to do is, we're trying to find the bloggers or journalists and things like that, that run websites that have linked back to our site, that would be probably open to seeing other content from us or giving us another backlink for another related resource.
4:57 - Figuring out if the links are good opportunity
So if I just go ahead and take a look at some of these websites, you can see how it's exactly the sort of sites that I would want to be reaching out to.
I want people who are creating regular content around the space that my space is in, just so that from there, it can be sort of a relationship that I can build with these different bloggers too.
The goal from here is that all you need to do is go ahead and click this export button in the top right section, and then you're gonna export it as either a CSV or an Excel file. From here, you're gonna get that download in place and then you can just go ahead and create a new Google sheet.
6:01 - What's next?
What I like to do from here is really simple. What I do is I go ahead and hire a prospector or a scraper to go through these different websites and then identify who's the webmaster or who's the original author of the blog post that linked back to me.
You can apply the same strategy for your top two or three other competitors. By doing so, you will then be able to have a short list of people where you can reach out to.
