Once a man reaches the age of 40, the game of life changes entirely. A man should no longer be insecure, confused, and attention-seeking like a teenager. However, many men continue to pursue the same senseless goals they had in their twenties.
Being liked by everyone. When you're younger, you don't yet know yourself, and you're trying to find your place in the world. You want people to like you, and you want people's respect. Often, when we were young, we shifted our identity to match who we were around, so that we would be liked or validated. By the age of 40, you're a grown ass man. And you should know who you are and embrace it. Own it and stop trying to chase validation. Chase authenticity instead.
Getting rich to flex. If you want to buy things to show off and make people think you're successful, that's what younger dudes do. It's intoxicating, and many on Instagram are engaging in this. The only person you need to worry about and impress financially is yourself. Having money is about freedom, not flexing.
Chasing the perfect body. Try to have the best body possible, but not at the detriment of overall health. You may want to be jacked, shredded, lean, and look amazing, but sometimes this is at the expense of bad decisions to your health. Put that away and understand fitness is about longevity and functional training. Be strong and healthy, as health is our number one asset.
Sleeping with as many people as possible. Don't sleep around because it's incredibly lonely and dangerous. It might seem fun at first, but it will get old. When you find that person, your life will get better. When you take spicy action off the table, you're able to focus and grow.
Trying to be somebody that you're not. Know who you are and own it. Know who you're not as well. I've used therapy to work on this, as I used to struggle with trauma and some of the mistakes I made. Through therapy, I was able to find happiness, forgive those I needed to forgive, and take control of my future. This third-party perspective is a valuable tool that can enhance your life.
Living for the weekend. If you're counting down until Friday, that's a red flag. You should not try to escape what you're doing on Monday through Thursday. Instead, focus on building a life that you don't want to run from. You should enjoy what you're doing and the people you do things with.
Trying to prove others wrong. Is there somebody in your life that you're still thinking about? Are they living rent-free in your head? Are you trying to prove them wrong? Stop trying to prove someone wrong; instead, prove yourself right. Focus on what you need to do to make yourself whole and happy.
Trying to be the cool guy. Young guys try to be cool and fit in, but by the time they're 40, they should be authentic and comfortable in their skin. Be able to laugh at yourself.
Chasing social media fame. If social media is part of your business or how you make a living, then that's cool. Go with it. But if you're trying to get a bunch of attention and likes, what's the point? The less time you spend on social media, the better.
Trying to make your family and friends happy. When men are younger, they do things because others want them to. Men often experience a midlife crisis as a result of this. They never did what they wanted or followed their hearts, and when they're finally true and honest with themselves, they crash. As soon as you can, embrace your life and all that you want from it. You have no obligation to make anybody happy other than yourself. Stop focusing on things that don't matter or move the needle. Drop the dead weight and focus on the things that make you healthy, happy, successful, and confident.
