AkshayaShakti Celebrates International Women’s Day with Grandeur at Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane
Thane, 8 March —AkshayaShakti Welfare Association celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and dignity at the scenic Gopalvan Grounds of Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania School, Thane. Surrounded by lush greenery, the event brought together women from AkshayaDhaaga centres across different locations, creating a vibrant platform that celebrated strength, solidarity, and self-reliance. The unique event was named WoW – Wings of Women – to provide confidence, courage and commitment thereby recognize the power of women in shaping up the community at large.
Founded in 2010 by Mrs. Mini Suboth, the AkshayaShakti Foundation began with a humble vision to uplift women through dignity, livelihood, and community support. Over the years, the organization has grown into a powerful grassroots movement and has empowered more than 30,000 women, transgender persons, and individuals from marginalized communities through skill development, livelihood training, and social empowerment initiatives. Today, under the leadership of Dr. Narayan Iyer, CEO of AkshayaShakti, the organization continues to expand its reach and impact across communities and has already crossed 120 skill centres in India.
The AkshayaDhaaga initiative, centered around sewing and craft-based livelihood skills, reflects the foundation’s guiding belief that “Sewing Mends the Soul.”
The celebration witnessed women dressed in a purple theme, symbolizing dignity and empowerment. Participants from diverse walks of life including doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, advocates, lawyers, teachers, educators, homemakers, and service professionals came together in unity. In a symbolic gesture of patriotism, participants also painted the Indian Tricolour, reflecting their shared pride and collective spirit.
The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sharmila Gaikwad Pimplolkar, Mayor of Thane, graced the occasion and appreciated the remarkable work carried out by AkshayaShakti Foundation in transforming lives and strengthening women’s empowerment.
A special acknowledgement was given to Dr. Ushavati Shetty, Social Ambassador for AkshayaShakti, whose continued encouragement and support have significantly contributed to the foundation’s outreach and the success of initiatives like this celebration.
Dr. Revathi Srinivasan, Director of Singhania Group of Schools, deserves a special mention for her wholehearted support and cooperation in making the event possible. Her encouragement, along with the excellent support extended by the Singhania School team, ensured that the event was conducted smoothly in a beautiful and inspiring environment.
The event was further enriched by the presence of Peace Messengers from IWPG – Dr. Vijetha Shetty and Dr. Larzy Varghese, who spoke eloquently about peace, unity, and the powerful role women play in shaping a harmonious society.
A highlight of the evening was the energetic performance by the school band team of St. Mary’s School, led by Principal Shri Subramaniam, whose students delivered a vibrant musical presentation that added great enthusiasm to the celebration.
The cultural segment featured musical performances by RJ Ajay Pillay, Pooja Pandayam, Arun Raghavan, Dr. Renuka Parmar and Ashalata Suvarna, whose melodies created a joyful and memorable atmosphere for all present.
The success of the event was made possible through the dedicated support of volunteers from TRCAC NSS, NMIMS, and Atlas SkillTech University, who worked seamlessly alongside the AkshayaShakti volunteer team. The Artion team enhanced the visual appeal of the celebration with creatively designed stage décor and selfie installations.
The celebration also witnessed strong media presence, helping amplify the message of women’s empowerment and community transformation. Importantly, many men participated in solidarity, extending their support to women in this noble mission of social progress and equality.
With the collective efforts of partners, supporters, volunteers, and participating organizations, the International Women’s Day celebration turned into a grand success, leaving participants inspired and fulfilled.
The AkshayaShakti Foundation continues to strengthen its mission of building confidence, dignity, and economic independence among women and marginalized communities, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive empowerment and social transformation.
