NEELKANTH MAHADEV TEMPLE:
Before starting with the vlog I would like to express my gratitude to Lord Shiva for giving me a chance to do a vlog on this Miraculous Temple of Mahadev. This was a great opportunity to discovery the power of Mahadev...and also the architectural expertise of the ancient time.
This temple is believed to be an ancient temple dates back to Gupta Period. There is an interesting story behind the existence of this temple.
As described in the Bhagavata Purana, Mahabharata and Vishupurana, after samudra manthan,Lord Shiva drank the poision & his throat became blue(hence the name Neel(blue) Kanth(Throat)).He came to Kalinjar & sat in a cave and overcame the KAL..that is he achieved victory over death. That is why the Shiv Temple at Kalinjar is called NEELKANTH MAHADEV TEMPLE.
This temple is situated in the southern part of the Kalinjar fort. We have to walk down 165 steps to reach the temple.
The miracle of the temple is that ,it has an ekmukhi shiv linga which is of great importance. Water believed to be the sweat of Mahadev is flowing out from the neck of the shivlinga all the time even during extreme summer.I have shown in the vlog,hope you will norice it there..its a blissful sight .
Next attraction is a giant statue of KAL BHAIRAV.... The amazing and huge statue of KALBHAIRAV is 7.3 meters long with 18 arms and 17 feet broad...It is ornamented with a garland of skulls. We can also see a statue of Goddess Kali near that.
Next attraction is SWARGAROHAN KUND , which is a rock cut tank on the top left side of the temple. It is the natural source of water just above the temple which never dries up and water drips on the shiv linga
Next attraction is Sahasra linga with 1000 small shiv lingas engraved on it.
The mandapa in front of the temple is roofless and octagonal in shape with 16 beautifully curved pillars.These all shows the creative expertise of the Chandelas and also the glory of the time.
We can also see many statues and stone carving along the way to the temple...
