Review: Redington Field Kits

Описание к видео Review: Redington Field Kits

Fly fishing is a pastime that most people believe is extremely difficult to get into. Aside from the intricate, artistic casts that look damn near impossible to master, even the basic gear that’s needed seems pretty intimidating. Redington just came out with a fly fishing rod and reel combo that’s trying to change that.

Designed with simplicity and affordability in mind, the Redington Field Kits tackle those pesky barriers to entry.

Free Range American staff writer Matt Smythe broke down the combo at the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show in Salt Lake City and discussed the reason these fly rod and reel kits make it simple for anyone to try.

“Essentially, it’s a rod, reel, line, leader, and tippet combo” he said, “which isn’t necessarily terribly revolutionary — there’s a lot of them that are out there — but what I really like about this one, though, is that it’s species-specific.”

The field kits come in 7 different set-ups — trout, bass, Euro nymph, trout spey, salmon, coastal cold water, and tropical saltwater. Each kit comes with a 4-piece medium or medium-fast action rod. The freshwater kits include a Redington RUN fly reel spooled with RIO Gold fly line. The saltwater kits include the BEHEMOTH reel with RIO Coastal Quickshooter fly line or RIO Bonefish Quickshooter fly line.

The adonized reel seats and guides will withstand the use and abuse that fishing gear tends to get, and each kit comes with a cordura rod and reel carrying case for compact, durable storage.

“They’re quality components,” Smythe said. “They’re coming from Redington, so they’re made to be durable. It’s not necessarily generic and something that’s gonna bust after a seasone or two.”

It may seem like species-specific set-ups might be a little limiting, but the reality is that if you’re an experienced angler, you tend to have different rods for different types of fishing anyhow, and new anglers are likely to be focused on one kind of fish or body of water — well, until they catch the fly fishing bug and suddenly have more fly rods than they know what to do with.

In either case, having a rig that you can walk into the garage, grab it off the rack, and throw into the truck without having to think twice is a great thing.

Whether it’s on small streams, larger rivers, lakes, the colder water of the northeast coast, or sun and salt further south, for new anglers, these kits are an all-in-one package that makes it easy to get on the water and fish.

“The great part about these is that it takes the guess-work out of getting started with fly fishing,” he said. “If you haven’t fly fished before and want to try it out, or if you’re going to introduce your kids, say, to fly fishing, this is a great way to get them into a combo that’s quality built and inludes everything you need — but also includes everything you need for specific situations.”

The Redington Filed Kits are also the perfect stow-away rod for your truck, or back-up rod if your go-to rig gets busted while you’re on the water and the bite is on fire.
