In order to carry out a court-ordered survey on a mosque, Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi intend to travel three and a half hours to Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh. Violent demonstrations by thousands of Muslims who allegedly threw stones, shot firearms, and threatened the ASI's surveyor team almost caused the survey to be halted at gunpoint. Critics of the Modi government and their supporters in opposition parties have gone into a meltdown as a result of this demonstration. The activists contend that if former CJIs Bobde and Chandrachud had not cleared the path, the lower judiciary would not have ordered these surveys, undermining the sanctity of the Places of Worship Act, 1991.
