Veterans Day, observed annually on November 11th in the United States, is a day dedicated to honoring all military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally known as Armistice Day, it marked the end of World War I, with the armistice taking effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918. In 1954, it was renamed Veterans Day to recognize the service and sacrifices of veterans from all wars. The day serves as an opportunity for Americans to express gratitude for the bravery, dedication, and sacrifices of military personnel, both past and present, who have worked to protect the nation's freedoms.
