MORITZ GROSSMANN GLASHÜTTE I/SA is a young brand that pays tribute to a great name, to one of the most fascinating figures in the history of German horology. Carl Moritz Grossmann is considered to be a visionary among the most eminent watchmakers, and a major contributor to the genesis of the watchmaking industry in Glashütte. Known for his ingenuity and multiple talents, he established his own mechanical workshop in 1854.

It soon evolved to become a highly respected watchmaking manufacture. This is where trailblazing components for precision measuring instruments and signature timepieces were crafted. Grossmann was commitment to various political and social causes as well. In 1878, he initiated, conceived, and established the German School of Watchmaking in Glashütte, and also taught mathematics and languages there. The company was liquidated after his sudden death in 1885. Initially, the name Carl Moritz Grossmann faded away but lived on nonetheless by virtue of his publications, the respect he earned for his achievements in horology, his merits for the town of Glashütte, and not least his pendulum clocks, pocket watches and chronometers that today are coveted collector’s items.
It was not until 2008, with the establishment of our company, that Carl Moritz Grossmann’s spiritual legacy was revived. Within a span of only ten years, a manufacture emerged with a collection of watches that bear the name Moritz Grossmann again. Leveraging Grossmann’s legendary pioneering spirit with traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, the company develops and crafts high-end mechanical timepieces inspired by the heritage of pure watchmaking artistry since 1854.
The manufacture calibres showcase exceptional technical and design features that captivate connoisseurs and collectors around the world. The BENU Tourbillon with the flying three-minute tourbillon and the stop-seconds hair brush, the mechanical date ensemble of the ATUM Date, and the Grossmann strap winder introduced with the TEFNUT Twist are but three examples of the team’s passion and ingenuity. The manually sculpted hands, individually conceived for each model family, are a rare hallmark.
