Tashkent has the CRAZIEST SOVIET ARCHITECTURE 🇺🇿 UZBEKISTAN

After the devastating earthquake of 1966, Tashkent was rebuilt as a model Soviet city by the leading architects of the time. The period of reconstruction coincided with a trend in brutalist architecture called Soviet Modernism. This, combined with the Soviet practice of localization, resulted in a unique architectural style called Tashkent Modernism, which combined the aforementioned brutalism with Central Asian motifs. Today, Tashkent is a unique open air museum of some of the best that Soviet architecture had to offer, including pre-war Classicist buildings that survived the quake.

Background: in November of 2023, I was invited to a wedding in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where I stayed for over 10 days. I filmed a 10 part vlog of my adventures there. This is a special edition from that series.
