I decided to walk through some of our little magical pathways and show what some of the garden is looking like in the Fall. Berries are still fruiting and provide pleasant snacks along the way. Walking through an overgrown bush tunnel and gazing at our huge tree by the gate reminds me of being a kid. I knew every tree and bush around our house.

I started digging the 4th bed of the group that I planned for garlic and grains. It is full of grass and various plants like the others. I'm at it again - chopping, turning, chopping, turning - piling up a mound in the middle so things can break down before I plant. I don't have time to dig out the weeds and pile them up because the rains are coming, and I need to get these things in the ground.

Still, I'm relaxed about it, taking another break to explore the upper garden area. Then I decided to go up into the forest a little, but the doorway I wanted to take was guarded by blackberries and so overgrown I couldn't open the door. I will work on opening that another time... the frogs are calling.

I've been on a journey to self-sufficiency, learning to develop and master life skills, often primitive ones. I love growing and harvesting the food I eat. It allows me to witness the life force moving through all living things. The goal is to connect with the Earth and the other elements as often as possible.
