(28 May 2014) The Nigerian military has confirmed the death of 12 soldiers and 13 policemen killed in yet another attack by the extremist group Boko Haram.
The attack took place on Tuesday in Buni Yadi, a town in Yobe state.
"We wish to confirm to you that there was a mass attack on Buni Yadi town, in Gujba local government of Yobe state, where some gallant soldiers and policemen lost their lives in the course of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria and that town in particular," said Major General Chris Olukolade, speaking in the capital Abuja on Wednesday.
"The casualties stand at 12 soldiers and 13 policemen, as revealed by the initial investigation into the incident," he added.
Buni Yadi was the site of a deadly attack in February, where Boko Haram suspects killed 58 students in a pre-dawn attack on a government college.
The militants set fire to a locked dormitory at a school in the town, then shot and slit the throats of students who tried to escape through windows.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the Nigerian military announced that it had located more than 200 girls abducted by Boko Haram.
Major General Olukolade said the girls would be rescued "as soon as possible".
