The Chiropotes satanas, commonly known as the Black Bearded Saki, is a canopy dwelling primate found in a restricted area of the eastern Amazon in northern Brazil. It lives primarily in mature terra firme rainforest and is highly adapted to life in the upper canopy, where it travels in social groups and feeds mainly on hard seeds and unripe fruits. Its powerful jaws and specialized teeth allow it to crack open tough shells that many other primates cannot access. The species plays an important ecological role as a seed predator and disperser within its forest ecosystem.

It is currently classified as Critically Endangered, with fewer than 2,500 mature individuals estimated to remain. Extensive deforestation for agriculture, logging, and infrastructure development has fragmented much of its habitat, isolating populations and reducing available food resources. Hunting for bushmeat continues in parts of its range, particularly where new roads increase human access to previously remote forest areas. Conservation efforts focus on protecting remaining forest habitat, strengthening law enforcement in protected areas, and improving monitoring of wild populations.
