Safa is a 3-year-old girl with anoxic brain damage, problems with swallowing, and convulsions. She was developing at an average rate with no complications until her accident, when she sustained anoxic brain damage after near drowning. Saga was taken to hospital and was in the ICU for two weeks, then stayed in the hospital for a month. She was then taken to Baylor for inpatient rehab for a month before returning home.

Goals for Safa include tolerating 45-60 minutes of VItalStim with no signs of aspiration and to tolerate oral stimulation with flavor for 15 min per session with minimal to moderate aversion for improved coordination and strength when swallowing within three months. Rehab Potential is good for these Goals

Lana is Safa's 4-year-old sister, also with anoxic brain damage, receptive language disorder, and dysphagia. She, too, was developing at an average rate with no complications until her accident, when she sustained anoxic brain damage after near drowning.

Goals for Lana include torlerating 10 bites per session of thin to nectar consistency for improved oral intake of liquids in the home within three months. She will also lateralize her tongue to increase range of motion for improved swallowing function within three months and tolerate three ounces of trials of pudding with signs of aspiration for improved oral intake within cert period.
