Daisy May Cooper reveals the last words her This Country co-star Michael Sleggs said to her before his tragic death aged 33 and believes his ghost has visited her

Daisy May Cooper has spoken out about her last phone call with her This Country co-star Michael Sleggs, before his tragic death aged 33.

Michael, beloved for playing Michael 'Slugs' Slugette in the BBC Three comedy, died in 2019 after suffering 'complications' following a battle with heart failure.

In a new interview, the actress, 38, recalled her last conversation with Michael and shared her beliefs he has since come back to visit her.
Daisy told The Times, Michael's death was when she began to believe in paranormal activity.

'What kicked everything off was losing Michael Sleggs. When he was in palliative care near the end, he’d been in agony for his whole life, he was frightened of dying.
But then he phoned me up and said, "I’m not scared any more, I felt this angelic light at the bottom of the bed that told me within seven days at midnight I’d have a new body". And he died within seven days, at 11.59. That brought so much comfort.'

Daisy said she told Michael he 'has to come back and tell me you're ok'.

She continued: 'He would have! But I hadn’t heard anything. It made me doubt myself. Then I woke up here and the duvet was being lifted, with no draught in the room. Then there was a banging, a musical hammering on the bedroom door. And Slugs had said, "I’m gutted I’m gonna miss the Phoenix festival".'

Daisy revealed Michael loved the festival held in Cirencester, which had a Guns N' Roses tribute band playing that year.

She added of the hair-raising experience: 'Is that coincidence?' and said she has since experienced more supernatural encounters following his death.

At the time of Michael's death, This Country's 'completely heartbroken' co-creators Daisy and her brother Charlie praised their 'generous, gentle and funny' friend in a heartbreaking statement, saying he was 'never bitter or self-pitying' in spite of his ill health.

In a series of tweets, the pair wrote: 'We are completely heartbroken. Michael was utterly unique.
He was kind, he was caring, he was loving. One of the most considerate generous and gentle friends you could ever wish for and funny- f**k me he was funny.

'Despite everything that Michael had been through in his life, he was never bitter or self pitying. He just brought pure joy to everything and everyone. Just being in his company made you happy to be alive.
