The mountains around Tabuk are part of extensive highlands that make the region stand out in Saudi Arabia. They form part of the Midian Mountains in the north and the Hejaz Mountains in central and southern areas. These ranges are known for their steep slopes, rugged terrain, and dramatic geological formations, shaped over millions of years by tectonic shifts and erosion.

1. Jabal al-Lawz
One of the most famous mountains in the Tabuk region, Jabal al-Lawz rises to about 2,580 m (8,465 ft) above sea level — making it one of the highest peaks in northwestern Arabia. Its name means “Mountain of Almonds” because wild almond trees grow in the area. The mountain’s slopes and summit feature multicolored rock formations, and in winter it can be covered in snow, which creates a striking contrast with the desert landscape below.

2. Jabal Maqla
Located near Jabal al-Lawz, Jabal Maqla reaches about 2,326 m (7,631 ft) above sea level. It’s known locally as the “Burnt Mountain” due to darker igneous rocks capping lighter colored slopes.

3. Other Peaks and Ranges
Tabuk’s highlands include many other mountains such as Jabal al-Qalom, Jabal Ferwa, and Jabal Umayyid, each adding to the scenic and rugged character of the region.
