Hey it’s Raj from 3CB.

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has missed a little over 3 weeks now with a right anterior thigh injury, likely of the rectus femoris muscle he injured last season which is both a hip flexor and knee extensor (double demand on it).

Manager Mikel Arteta said that Partey’s availability was “not looking good” and the club would have to wait and see. We haven’t received any official team updates on Partey’s physio progress but he has released two videos on his Instagram - first of him cycling and yesterday running on a treadmill. So what does this tell us about his progress & return timeline?

It’s certainly an encouraging sign that indicates Thomas has responded well thus far but outside of that, you can’t take much from it because light to medium jogging places only a mild load on the hip flexors and quadriceps. If Partey responds well and then progresses to higher hip and quad demand activities like sprinting, multi-directional, and especially kicking & reaching - then we’ll have a much better indicator of return timeline.

This continues to be a wait and see for Arsenal and Thomas Partey. That’s just how it goes with muscular injuries.
