Beloka Gorge whitewater, Snowy River [kayaking-packrafting-C1]

This is an introduction for the Grade 4 whitewater paddler to the main rapids of Beloka Gorge, Snowy River, at low and medium discharges. If it’s your first time, go with a crew that knows this section. This section is about 12 km long and takes about 2 - 4 hrs.

I’m yet to paddle Lone Pine rapid, so I don’t have any helmet-cam footage of it, but I have plenty from the river left portage, of other people paddling it.

I highly recommend Jez‘s video & notes (   • Snowy River flows for the first time ...  ) because he includes some other lines:
- the river right line on Lone Pine;
- the left line at Darlo’s Boof;
- the right line at Bouncing Beloka;
- the left line of the main channel on the Boulder Garden/Shit Rapid; and
- the left line on Lower El Paso).

There are other lines (mostly more advanced) that are not shown in either of these videos.

Rapid nomenclature:
Alarm Clock Rapid = Lakewood Rapid.
Shit Rapid = The Boulder Garden.
Marsh’s One Stick Rapid = Ben’s Abyss (either way, it’s the longest rapid on this section).

The best rapid is last: Lower El Paso.
