IBASHO Virtual Exhibition #49 The Photobook as Object

Описание к видео IBASHO Virtual Exhibition #49 The Photobook as Object

Within Japanese photography the photo book is a very important medium for Japanese photographers. During the 1960s and '70s in Japan, the photo book - through a combination of excellence in design, printing, and materials - even overtook prints as a popular mode of artistic dissemination. This process has expanded to an extent where any discussion of contemporary Japanese photography now has to include the book work.
As of the opening of the gallery in 2015 IBASHO has not only shown Japanese photography in print form, but has also put emphasis on the photo book with a collection of new and antiquarian Japanese photo books.
In 2019 IBASHO partnered up with the Parisian publisher the(M)éditions to publish more experimental books related to Japanese photography. Since then we have published 8 photo books together and most recently 6 more co-publications have been launched. We thoroughly enjoy collaborating with artists, talented book designers, high quality printers and binders in order to create books that are an object in itself.

In the exhibition 'The Photo Book as Object' the publications by IBASHO & the(M)éditions will be exhibited, accompanied by works of the artists. We will also display creative photo books and works by some other artists with whom we work, resulting in a large group photo book exhibition.
Photo books by the following artists - and artworks - will be exhibited:
