Addressing a public meeting in Balurghat, West Bengal, PM Modi said, “One major reason for the backwardness in the Dinajpur region is the neglect of its farmers and artisans. The handloom industry of Gangarampur, renowned for its wooden sculptures made by local artists, receives praise everywhere. The farmers here who cultivate jute fulfill the country's needs. After decades, it's the BJP government that has shown concern for the jute farmers and artisans. The BJP has initiated the PM-Vishwakarma scheme for 18 traditional trades like pottery, blacksmithing, basket making, mat weaving, and for artisans and craftsmen.”
