The Carpenters at the White House - Part 1 (Close to You)

The Carpenters performed at the White House on May 1, 1973 as part of a Nixon administration dinner in honor of "His Excellency Willy Brandt, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany."

The Carpenters performed many of their hits, including "Close to You," "Top of the World," "We’ve Only Just Begun," and a medley of ‘Superstar’ and ‘Rainy Days and Mondays,’ accompanied by their band and members of the Marine Orchestra.

The song performed on this clip is "Close to You."

Part of this video is taken from the DVD "Carpenters - Close to You - Remembering the Carpenters." Other parts are taken from a VHS copy that I bought online about 30 years ago. You'll see the video quality fluctuate as the missing bits are reinserted into the video.
