President Vladimir Putin hailed what his commanders told him was the full Russian capture of the city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, saying late Monday (December 1) evening, that it would help Moscow fulfill its wider war aims.

On Tuesday (December 2), the military corps fighting in the city told Reuters that Ukrainian troops are still holding the northern part of the city.
