Parts of the federal government in Washington, D.C. are shut down after Senate Democrats failed to support a continuing resolution to keep the government open and buy some time for lawmakers to negotiate full-year spending bills.
Former White House Advisor Steve Moore said the shutdown won’t impact the average American much.
“This is not the end of the world,” Moore said during a one-on-one interview with The National News Desk’s Jan Jeffcoat on Wednesday. “It’s a shame it’s come to this. I do think the Democrats and [Senate Democratic Leader] Chuck Schumer have overplayed their hands a little bit. What they’re saying is they want to repeal all of the cost savings from the tax bill that passed back in July and Republicans aren’t going to do that.”
Moore said Democrats also want more money to fund health care for illegal immigrants, as well as get rid of work requirements for welfare.
“Those aren’t very popular positions with the American people and given, Jan, that we are borrowing $2 trillion a year in Washington, the idea of adding all this spending I don’t think is going to be very popular with taxpayers,” he said.
