Using the deep litter method for over-wintering chickens is an excellent management strategy. If you don't add enough litter, however, it could be problematic for the chickens. I detected a smell of ammonia in the raken house (rabbit/chicken cattle panel greenhouse) which means there's too much nitrogen and not enough carbon.
