Insite - Safe Injection Site, Vancouver

For my Law 12 research project, I decided to avoid writing an essay in the library, and instead, take two girls from my class to the most dangerous and disease-ridden area of our city, Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, and shoot a short film on Insite, the Safe Injection Site.

In an area where it is common for people to be killed, over less than most people spend on their morning coffee at Starbucks, we borrowed a Video Camera from VCC and spent 2 days filming and interviewing everyone we could, from Drug-Users to the Vancouver Police Department. Some of the best information we were given, we were not permitted to film. The police were also willing to answer questions, but not on film. They tried to redirect us to Media Relations to make an appointment, but we managed to get one street cop to speak on Camera, so hopefully he doesn't get fired.

I then, took the footage and edited a 9-minute Documentary, which should definitely give you a sneak-peak into a lifestyle you don't very often get to see. Before filming, I really didn't have an opinion on it, but after, I definitely think it's an asset to our city.
