6 Acre Permaculture Farm Homestead Tour | One Year Experience

In 2019, we started our homestead from scratch with zero experience on our 1/4 acre backyard garden in the city and we brought home a few chickens in 2020. When we wanted to bring in more livestock, we left the city and bought 6 acres in the country in Northern California and brought home goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, geese, and our LGDs.

We have made a lot of expensive mistakes in the past year, and we have accomplished more than we ever thought possible. As a military family, we live and breathe failing fast to succeed faster.

Homesteading in Northern California was the best option for us because we had never farmed before, and we wanted to be able to be within a reasonable proximity to work in the Bay Area while being close to family and friends. It was a lot of fun and required a lot of faith, but while both work full-time while running businesses, we wanted to begin our journey into improving the health of our family. Starting with sprinkling in some soil in our lives.

As we say thank you and good bye to our beautiful homestead in California, we want to share an update on what we have been up to since we began this journey, and appreciate this home and land in all that we have learned so far.

We are Sophie and Tim and we moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to Northern California "Gold Country" in the Summer of 2021 to learn to grow our own food. In 2022, we bought some raw land in the Appalachias and are taking everything we learned to build a homestead with minimal resources in a just 60 days. We try to live more sustainably and try not to throw anything away, even egg shells and coffee grinds!

In 2023, we will begin releasing more videos to share what we have accomplished, and are learning in the world of growing our own food, preparing, and cooking from scratch with nutrient-dense food from our land.
