August 1st Clemson Historic Picture And Trivia Question Of The Day

Today’s photo is a student in the 1960’s “thumbing a ride” while posing with an umbrella.

During this era in Clemson very few students had cars, so if students wanted to return home or go visit their girlfriend at another school in South Carolina, they would line up on Friday afternoon’s and try to “thumb a ride” with someone who had a car that might be heading in the general direction of where the student wanted to end up.

Trivia Question
There was a common place where students would wait to thumb a ride, and over the years signs would be erected so students could stand in front of the sign of the town and area they were heading, to help those that may be willing to take a rider. Where was that location.
