Dr Suvarchala on (IVF treatment) 2018 and "What goes on Inside the lab"

On the occasion of world Embryologists/IVF day our leading embryologists share thoughts on how they feel blissful in helping families dream come true. Here Dr Suvarchala talks about what goes on inside the lab. From the moment the eggs and sperm are collected from the patients, the embryologist makes sure that they are handled safely as they are brought to the embryo lab. Here, the embryologist will prepare the eggs and sperm for IVF. For IVF, the eggs and sperm are mixed together to encourage fertilisation. The embryologist will check for fertilisation to ensure that the eggs have been fertilised and become embryos. In the case of ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), an advanced technique in IVF, the embryologist will inject the sperm directly into the egg in order to increase the chance of fertilisation. 3 to 5 days after fertilisation, the embryos are then transferred to the woman's uterus. During an IVF procedure, multiple eggs are removed from the woman to improve the success rates. The embryologist is also in charge of storing any excess healthy embryos for future use.
