I made this box because my compressor is super noisy. With the box and its insulation inside I can talk to someone without having to turn off the compressor also I can hear myself think again.

It is one box but its double plated. I used 12mm MDF so combine its 24mm. First I made one box that is big enough to fit the compressor, don't make a lid or something just glue and staple the box completely shut. Then make the second box snugly over the one you already have. Don't glue the "second or outer box" just use some staples. The with the circular saw you saw the outer box (only 11.5mm deep rest use a knife) so you get a boxlike lid.
Then do the same with the inner box but make sure you get an overlap. After this the box is opened en you can glue and staple the outer box on the inner box together. The lid now fits on the box so close it almost won't open because of the vacuum.
Make the lid big enough so you can make the 'silenced' air intake in it. Make a labyrinth so the air has to find its way in it and loses the sound.
My box is made big enough so that I had an extra compartment for the regulator hose and power cable.

For making tidy boxes make the plate overlap 1or 2 mm, then use your router with copy-bit to make an nice and tidy corner
