I have a 70lb. Pit and this mat works great for her. It has a rubbery type material underneath to keep it in place and it catches her water splashes. Since we give her salmon oil in her food, she has a habit of licking her food bowl clean and this mat helps keep it in place. Underneath there are little purple spots, someone claimed it to be mold, I think it's just coloration from the dye in the fabric, if it was molded that bad I figure it would smell like it and it doesn't. I haven't washed the mat yet but so far i am very happy with this purchase.
