The paraglider has similarities with the parachute, it also has a flexible structure and the pilot is suspended by lines. But these similarities end there. O parapente (paraglider em inglês) possui semelhanças com o paraquedas, pois também tem uma estrutura flexível e o piloto fica suspenso por linhas. Porém estas semelhanças terminam por aí. O voo de parapente é portanto, uma modalidade de voo livre que pode ser praticado tanto para recreação quanto para competição. Assim como o paraquedas, é considerado esporte radical.
