This video was recorded from the cab of 3830 as it works from Wollongong to Sydney with a tour from the Illawarra region back to Sydney on May 11th, 2003.
The crew was Ian Thornton and Frank Johnson, both of whom are no longer with us. The performance of 3830 as it climbs to Waterfall is a testament to the skills and experience of these two enginemen. Also on the footplate was Jennifer Edmonds, who was one of the Powerhouse Museum employees extensively involved in the restoration and ongoing maintenance of the locomotive.
