Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teenagers. Each year, more than 5,000 teenagers die in traffic accidents in the United States. In Georgia, more than 200 teenagers die in traffic accidents each year, leaving devastating families with grief that never goes away. The cost to society is staggering. The emotional cost is impossible to measure.

In July 1997, the Teenage and Adult Driver Responsibility Act became law in Georgia. Since then, traffic fatalities among teenagers have consistently declined, but fatal accidents continue to occur and driving laws have been strengthened to address this tragic situation.

Mandatory jail sentences for DUI are sending first-time offenders to jail for at least 24 hours. A graduated licensing system is making teenagers prove they are responsible enough to drive, and 16-year-olds must pass a certified driver training course prior to receiving a driver's license.

Driving Ambition explains the new driving laws and looks at the results DUI, inexperienced and reckless driving have on society.
