Lesson Description:
This video introduces a Partnered Charleston Basic. If this is your first 8-count figure....yippee!

The Charleston started in the 1920s was a separate dance that was both Solo and Partnered. This was a precursor to Swing Dancing. Variations of both dances are still popular in the world of dancing today.

Charleston sprang from Traditional Jazz music and was popularized in the 1920's. It was typically danced to higher tempos and consequently is very compatible with swing dancing when the tempo increases beyond the comfort zone of triple stepping. There's no official rule on when and where to use it.

We consider Charleston to be an integral part of swing dancing. Learn it, love it, dance it!
