A Ramble Along the Olmsted 50, Part 3A, May, 2024

Описание к видео A Ramble Along the Olmsted 50, Part 3A, May, 2024

This is a series that will follow The Mountaineers' Olmsted 50. Links are below. The Mountaineers are a hiking and conservation society in Seattle. The Olmsted Brothers Firm (primarily brother John as brother Frederick was in general poor health and could not make the trip from the east coast) designed dozens of parks and public spaces in Seattle (any many more elsewhere) from 1903-1941. The Mountaineers put together an in-city hike that covers 31 miles (about 50k) and touches many Olmsted parks as it winds through the heart of the Olmsted Master Plan. I am going to walk the route in 10 sections throughout 2024.

This one picks up near Husky Stadium and the University of Washington hospital and ends up on Capitol Hill by way of the Arboretum. It sounds so innocent. Between the University bridge and the Arboretum is some wetlands right on Lake Washington. The lake was very, very high. At more than a few points the trail was at the water level and at one spot was 6-8 inches under the water for 25-30 feet. You can see me struggle to pick a path in a few spots but that last one was unavoidable. Mud and water over the ankles and no way around it. Oh well! It is a long one because the first mile was full of mud, lol. Enjoy!
