Today we are going to take a look at the Curt Towing Starter Kit with the two inch ball for two inch trailer hitches and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this is a nice convenient starter kit that it will have everything you need to tow minus the hitch. It's a starter kit. So it does contain the basic components needed for towing. I'm going to take these out of the case one by one, go through them. We'll start with the hitch receiver lock with the keys. So if I unlock it and remove the hitch receiver lock with the keys, this will lock your ball mount to your hitch. The ball mount itself, it's an eight and a quarter inch long powder-coated ball mount, has the pre torqued two inch diameter hitch ball installed on it.
And inside in a bag, they do have the hitch pin and clip, which is included. It does come with this hitch cover right here. Nice rubber, strong sturdy hitch cover. And then again, this pre-formed storage case to store your parts in when you're not using them. Now, basically the ball mount right here, this will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank right here is where it will slide into your vehicle's hitch receiver. The ball platform provides the mounting point for the hitch ball.
Now this hitch ball provides the connection point for your trailer's coupler. And this one is pretty torque to factory spec, so you don't have to mess with trying to install that. The hitch receiver lock right here, this will help prevent theft of your hitch mounted accessory. It's very easy to use. It requires only a quarter turn of the key to lock or unlock it. You can see if you put the key in it, just turn it a quarter of a turn.
Remove it. When you insert this into your hitch, slide this part through there, put it on there. There we go. Put it on there. Turn the key a quarter of return. It locks into place, put your cover on to protect that, and you're all ready to go.
No one can take that off of your hitch. It does have the watertight dust cap on it to prevent internal corrosion. As we mentioned, the two keys are included. It's a sturdy steel construction, has rust resistant finishes. There's a nice black powder coat finish on the ball mount. The hitch ball is chrome plated, and the hitch lock is also. And again, to remove the hitch lock, just put your key in there, turn it a quarter of a turn. It'll come right out. The rubber hitch cover right here has a nice Kirk logo on it. Keeps dirt and debris out of your receiver, when you're not putting the ball mount in there and towing. The case we've had it all in stored in. It's a nice sturdy reusable case. Lets you store the kit components when not being used.A few specs on this. The application is for two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver gross towing weight capacity is 7,500 pounds. Tongue weight is 750 pounds. The ball size is a two inch diameter.A few dimensions on this. Oh, I also want to mention, we forgot about the hitch pin and clip. If you don't want to use the hitch receiver lock, you can use this pin and clip, which is your standard pin and clip that'll slide through. Pin it into place and then hold it into place also. Now a few dimensions on this, the ball mount length from center of hitch pin hole right here, to the center of the ball is going to be right at eight and a quarter inches. This, we're we got it in the drop position now. So the drop, which will be from the top of the shank here, to the top of the ball platform, put a ruler on it. There's four inch maximum drop. And if you happen to use it in the rise, of course you'd have to turn the ball over the rise would be top of the shank, top of the ball platform. It's going to be right at two inches maximum rise. But then again, just to store it, what you'll do is, take your case. Let's go ahead and put our pin and clip in our bag back inside. Drop that into there. Put your hitch cover back in there, take your hitch lock, slide it up, hold your ball mount into place, lock that. And just like that you have it all stored in the storage case, ready to go.But that should do it for the review on the Curt Towing Starter Kit with a two inch ball for two inch trailer hitches and a 7,500 pound gross towing weight capacity..
