Professor the Lord Darzi gives his Presidential Address for the British Science Association on Friday 18 September at 11.00 BST.

Professor Darzi has a long and distinguished career in public health with a longstanding commitment to encouraging innovation in technical surgery and enhancing patient safety and care. He holds the Paul Hamlyn Chair of Surgery at Imperial College London, the Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research, and he is Director of Imperial’s Institute of Global Health Innovation. Lord Darzi also has direct experience of politics and policymaking as he was Health Minister in Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s government from 2007-9. He has been knighted for his services to medicine and surgery before being appointed to the House of Lords, and has been the UK’s Global Ambassador for Health and Life Science.
