We’ve been in business since 1998, making us one of the oldest and most experienced service locating companies in Victoria.

Our manager Ben Minutoli was the first in Victoria to obtain his Dial Before You Dig certification and, to date, we’re still the only company in Victoria to have multiple technicians within the company who are DBYD certified (if you don't know, that’s the highest level of certification for a locator in Australia).

Actually, if you don't know about the Dial Before You Dig certification you can find out more about it here, at a blog post Ben wrote when it first came out: https://geelongcablelocations.com.au/...

And you can also read more about it on another blog post he wrote 12 months after it was started, as well as some tips on how to know which locator to pick to come out to your site: https://geelongcablelocations.com.au/...

If you have a question about either of those blog posts or, better still, if we can be of any assistance to you with any of your locating needs—or even if you’d just like to discuss a project you’re working on—then feel free to call us toll-free on 1800 449 543.

Okay, so what we're doing today. We're doing an optic fibre that crosses the road. We need to locate where it goes. It's in a 100mm conduit by itself. There's no other copper cables in there. There's no other cables, nothing else. Just an optic fibre by itself. There are 2 conduits going side by side. Because there's no other copper cable we can't hook onto anything else. We are not going to be able to locate where it goes. So what we're going to do is use a push rod and use the push rod to push the rod down the conduit and then locate where the push rod is
which will tell us where the optic fibre is. So let's get going.

Okay, so we've pushed it as far as we can get it. Let's go for a walk and see where we got to. I reckon we got to that manhood but let's go have a look. Okay, so the rod's in here. Okay, so what I've just done. As you saw I pushed the rod to here
but I need to keep following it down that way there. I've located from there coming back this way here but I haven't got this little bit done. Now I can get the rod and set it up right here but what I wanted to do instead is because where we are at the moment I don't want to setup the rod and the earth and the rest of it. This could be a bit dangerous with pedestrians walking past. So what I would of done is pushed the rod straight through from that pit over to that way over there
This way we are going to be able to keep following it the whole way through. Alright guys, let's go locate it

That's it. We're now all done. All found. Come for a walk and let me show you what I've found. It's very very shallow. Alright so we started from this pit so from this manhole here it's 300mm deep. Comes along. It's only 200mm deep below here 200mm. Ignore the orange. The orange we found power so finished that bit already but this bit here 200mm so yeah, very very shallow. And yes, we are talking about optic fibre. Through here and this is where I came off before. Earlier I started down there and worked my way up. That's 300mm deep so that was the last bit I've just done then.

Before I let you go let me show you the middle part in the road how shallow it was in there. Alright, take a look at this. 300mm deep. 300mm deep and then that sign is right there. Hopefully they haven't put the sign too deep in there because that optic fibre is right underneath it 300mm deep and the 300mm goes that way. So whoever, I'm thinking it's the council. Whoever's from the council that put the sign in. You're very lucky that you didn't go through the optic fibre. So that is it. That is how we locate optic fibre when there's no copper cables in the conduit. Takes longer than when it is just copper, but you get there. You get there, you get it done. It wasn't that long really.

Alright, I hope you all have a good day. I'm going to go pull the rod out now clean it and put it back in the car. Bye
