Can You Buy a SIM Card in Taiwan? It Is Complicated 🇹🇼 (Response to @Michele Ponte)

Michele Ponte, an amazing travel vlogger, made a video showing his struggles trying to buy a Taiwanese SIM card in Taipei. He did not buy a SIM card at Taoyuan Airport. Can travelers actually buy regular SIM cards in Taiwan? I decided to find out myself.

Buying a local prepaid SIM card can be easy and straightforward or complicated and messy - that is why I created this channel to make traveling with your phone easier.

In many countries in South and Southeast Asia, you can buy SIM cards at kiosks, supermarkets, newsstands, and many types of shops - that is not the case in Taiwan.

Instead, you can buy a SIM card from any Taiwanese operator (Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile, Far Eastone, Taiwan Star, and GT Mobile) either at Taoyuan Taiwan International Airport or at official operator branches.

However, for some reason, getting a prepaid SIM card as a short-term traveler can be hard - much more challenging what you would think.

That is why, unlike many other countries, I would encourage travelers to buy SIM cards at the airport (including Kaohsiung International Airport with Chunghwa Telecom and Taiwan Mobile booths. Chunghwa Telecom also has booths in Taipei Songshan Airport and Taichung Airport).

You will be saving a lot of time AND you get SIM cards with truly unlimited data plans for a set validity.

And I am talking about unlimited data at unthrottled 4G speeds, not "unlimited" data at 3 Mbps or some nonsense like that.

I managed to use more than 150 GB with one of my Chunghwa Telecom tourist SIM cards, and my speeds were never throttled.
