Alternative milks are all the rage.

Most coffee shops have at least two dairy alternatives if not 4 to 6.

Hemp milk, almond, soy, coconut, rice, cashew, macadamia, and oat milk.

Starbucks now carries Oatly. My first thought when I heard about oat milk was great. Sounds good. I’ll take oat milk since I really don’t do cow's milk.

But then I took a look at the ingredients in oat milk, namely Oatly Barista oat milk and was blown away that the second ingredient is rapeseed oil. Rapeseed oil is a conductor of total body inflammation and irritation.

To add insult to injury, if it is not organic which as we know non-organic oats (even many organic oats if we don’t keep their feet to the fire) are loaded with glyphosate. Glyphosate and the chemical friends that help activate it are known carcinogens, meaning they promote cancer, as well as being destructive to our gut lining.

Next on the list of reasons that oat milk is not cutting it for me is the liquid carbohydrate content. Even the oat milk that doesn’t have added sugars still has an enormous amount of naturally occurring carbohydrates.

The best dairy alternative I think is real coconut milk, not the watered down stuff but the stuff that has one ingredient, coconut milk. Especially the AroyD, it is so creamy.

Second in line would be hemp milk as long as you check the added sugar content.

Third would be macadamia milk.

If you prefer almond milk, it must be organic. And make sure they are free of sunflower, safflower, canola, rapeseed, soy, corn oils.

Organic coffee has so many benefits for so many people but all the extra sauce we add to it in the western world can turn coffee against our good health.
