2009 July Anti-Mosquito Fog Truck in South Korea (thermal fogger)

Every spring/summer/fall in South Korea you will hear, and then see, the anti-mosquito fogging truck. You hear a rumbling burr sound off in the distance, and then might see white smoke billowing up from wherever the truck is driving. The truck drives slowly up and down every street, and into every apartment building parking lot. It sprays the white fog out in thick drifting clouds . . .

For foreigners visiting South Korea this can be shocking--especially if the practice of spraying for mosquitoes is not done in their home country/region. Especially shocking is the fact that children chase the chemical fog truck and run and play in the fog . . . and no one tells them to stop. Also, it seems like most people do not close their windows when the truck comes by, and generally seem completely unconcerned about the chemical fog that they are walking through . ..
