The Penzance Castles – 5029, 5051 and 50031 – 4th and 6th May 2002

On the 4th May, this railtour started in London and ran to Penzance and return. The steam section, with GWR engines 5029 Nunney Castle, 5051 Earl Bathurst was from Taunton to Penzance, one way. The diesel sections were in the hands-on Class 50 50031 Hood.
The videos were taken at Cogload Junction, Wellington, Teignmouth, Aller Junction, Devonport and Hemerdon.

On the 6th May this railtour started at Crewe and ran to Penzance and return. The steam section should have been with GWR engines 5029 Nunney Castle, 5051 Earl Bathurst from to Penzance to Bristol, one way. Due to 5029 Nunney Castle failing with a hot box on the Saturday, class 50 diesel 50031 Hood assisted 5051 Earl Bathurst from Penzance to Exeter. From there to Bristol 5051 Earl Bathurst took the train alone. The diesel sections were in the hands of Class 50s 50031 Hood and 50049 Defiance.
