A rare occasion when the lake was frozen and became icy but before the snow came in to cover the surface of the lake, that narrow window was the perfect timing for ice skating on the lake. We discovered the icy lake by pure luck. We were snowshoeing the day before to the Winnemucca lake near by, and had to come back the next day. A week later we went back and as expected, the lake was covered with snow and no longer suitable for ice skating. Next winter!
