Secretary Bird vs Black-backed Jackal

A secretary bird interacts with a black-backed jackal in the Maasai Mara.

The secretary bird is a large, mostly terrestrial bird with an eagle-like body and crane-like legs, that does not hunt larger mammals like jackals. Instead, they hunt rather small prey like mice, lizards, and insects. The same is true of the black-backed jackals, as they also prey upon smaller animals such as rodents, lizards, and snakes.
