The Organised Mum Method | Program Review| Pros & Cons

Описание к видео The Organised Mum Method | Program Review| Pros & Cons

The Organised Mum Method (TOMM) is a cleaning or homemaker program similar to what you would find from Clean Mama or The FlyLady Program.

It was created by Gemma Bray under the idea that housework can be completed in as little as 45 minutes (15 minute daily chores and 30 minutes deeper cleans) a day and there is no need to clean on weekends.

Gemma gets that housework (cleaning specifically) is just one part of homemaking and there are other areas where people prefer/need to spend their time.

She breaks down house cleaning chores/jobs into three levels. Level one is daily cleaning chores (Similar to my Daily Five, Clean Mama's five dailies, or Flylady's daily cleaning chores. She doesn’t tell you specifically what to do, but she does give you an idea:

-sweep
-make beds
-bathroom (more on this in a minute)
-one load of laundry

It should take 15 minutes.

Next, she has "level two jobs" - which is where her program deviates from other programs. She takes a room-by-room approach. She wants you to spend 30 minutes a day in a specific room (except Friday, which you will rotate other rooms or do deeper cleans.)

Monday: living room
Tuesday: bedroom
Wednesday: hall or Stairs
Thursday: kitchen
Friday: (friday focus) which is an eight-week rotation of deeper cleans in your home (again a room-by room-approach.)

Week 1: kids’ bedrooms
Week 2: living room
Week 3: kitchen
Week 4: bathrooms
Week 5: master bedroom
Week 6: hall & stairs
Week 7: a room of your choice
Week 8: garden/outside space

Pros
I like that she breaks down things into levels. It's an easy way to mentally organize yourself and track progress. So, as I went through each day, I could mentally check off level one tasks, then level two tasks. Friday is the only day you do level three, but it gave you a solid structure for the week.

She offers a boot camp if you want to jump-start the process. I call this a "back to zero" plan. It is also a room-by-room approach to getting things under control. She also has a decluttering plan which is super helpful.

Cons
I found getting out my cleaning supplies daily was redundant. Specifically, when it came to vacuuming and mopping, which you do almost daily with this plan.

Also, deeper cleans of the bathrooms on her rotation are every eight weeks, but my tubs/showers/sinks/toilettes and floors need thoroughly cleaned weekly or they get gross. Her workaround is cleaning the bathrooms a little bit at a time during your daily chores. I did not find that feasible or easily actionable within the suggested time allotment.
