Standing out as one of the most respected and nationally recognized Hardcore/Punk groups to emerge from the streets and stages and streets of New York in decades, Rebelmatic releases another vibey hard-rocking anthem that falls neatly in their growing list of tunes fans gleefully sing along with at shows. Few bands in the pantheon of Black Rock Gods can boast that they have been lauded by everyone from Bad Brains to David Byrne, and recorded with legends like Angelo Moore. The boys from Brooklyn have accomplished this and much more. On the heels of their critically acclaimed 2020 album Ghost In The Shadows and 2022 release Mourning Dove, the new Live Album pushes things up a few notches pushing them further into the territory of iconic NYC rock bands.
Story of the Album:
DCxPC Live: I first heard of Rebelmatic through my old friend Flora (Maafa, The 1865). During the pandemic, I marveled over their guerilla pop-up shows they did in random alleys and street corners in NYC, and I was fucking hooked. Then I moved to NY, and the first show I went to was Soulside at Tubby’s in Kingston and who should be opening…fucking Rebelmatic! That shit was so hot! I just had to ask them to do a live album. Creech was super easy to talk with and over the course of months we chatted, and he told me that Morgantown, WV was the place to record the show. I had played Morgantown with my old band The Overprivileged several times thanks to a band called False Profit. I knew those shows were sick, so I was down. When he sent me the rough tracks, I was just stunned. So fucking good. The energy, the stage banter, the songs. It’s everything a live album should be.
Rebelmatic: I always wanted to put out a live album to capture the essence of what we do. So when we met Scott at the Soulside show in Kingston, NY, he told me he specialized in putting out live recordings, and I was very interested. The fact we have a mutual friend in Flora (Maafa, The 1865) made it an easy thing to make happen. Scott and I talked about the live album, and I was like it’s either going to be in our hometown of NYC or in Morgantown, WV which feels like our second home. We are very happy to be putting this live album out with DCxPC Live along with Shiny Dome Records. I think y'all are going to dig it if you rock with us. Shout out to 123 Pleasant /Fuzz fest and to all the people that came out and helped create this magic.
Shiny Dome Records: After nearly 20 years working in the food service industry, I took the opportunity to turn a lifelong passion into a career path. This started as a pop-up endeavor, setting up crates of records for sale at local conventions and at shows at our beloved venue/home to all the misfit-toys, 123 Pleasant Street, in Morgantown, WV, in 2021. Currently, there’s not just a brick and mortar location, but employees as well, right across from 123, a dream location for us. We focus on new stock of metal and punk, but that doesn’t mean that's all we have, nor is it all that we do. We also helped put on a local music festival, Fuzzfest, which we were thrilled to have a Rebelmatic headline in 2023. Creech and company, throw down so hard, and with so much heart and all the PMA. Can’t wait to see what the future brings.
