I recently heard this tough story about a director who’d been issued a director penalty notice.

They called up the ATO, and the case officer there was actually pretty helpful and said she could get them on a payment plan, extend the deadline and lift the DPN if they could provide her with the notices… which obviously sounded great…

But this is where it all went wrong.

When the director actually found the DPN, it turned out it was issued 4 weeks ago, putting it over the 21-day deadline.

This meant the director was now personally liable for the debts of the company – and one of those debts was over $1M to the ATO.

$1M they were now personally liable for.

And this isn’t just a once off story…

DPN’s are everywhere now, in fact they’re up 50% on 2023, and it’s only going to get worse.

So, if you receive a DPN notice in the mail don’t sit on it, act fast and get onto a solution as soon as you can.
