Divorce is a difficult process – and it’s even tougher on the children than on the partners. When it comes to visitation and custody, both structure and flexibility are crucial for your children’s well-being.

When you are working out a custody agreement, structure with flexibility means that you clearly outline when your children will be with one parent or the other in your agreement. This is the structure. When it comes to flexibility, it also should be stated that each partner is flexible as far as occasions where schedules and commitments change, as they always do at some point. For example, during a special occasion when a child is schedule to be with one parent but should be with another, such as a birthday – even if this falls on a day that the schedule does not technically permit, you can still clearly state in your agreement that each partner is flexible to changes if necessary.
