ORIGINAL INFO: Life is but a dream… if only the movie this comic is based on was one, too.

RUMINATIONS: I really need to get back into Star Trek books. The last ones I read were some DS9 novels where the Blue Gill parasites were defeated (in a rather awesome fashion) and Bajor officially joined the Federation. There was also a New Frontier novel I read, but I haven’t read the most recent two (including the digital-only one). Basically, I’m waaaay behind but would love to get caught up again. I know there was some kind of Borg invasion that seemed… rather awful, especially with the retcon of humanity being responsible for the Borg’s creation, which is just one of those ideas that just seems far too fanficcy, placing special importance on the two species together instead of just being a race with a completely alien and terrifying way of life.

As for Star Trek V, what else can be said that hasn’t already been said? There is still a line or two in there that I actually found funny (and I used for the stinger of the episode), but it is still rather awful. Some commenters at the time said I didn’t really demonstrate how this was a love-letter from William Shatner to himself, but that’s mostly because SF Debris did a good job of that in his own review and I didn’t want to just repeat everything he said. More or less, Kirk is the only competent person in Starfleet, the one who sees through Sybok’s nonsense, is the one who gives the iconic “What does God need with a starship?” line, is admired by friend and foe alike, and stuff like that, made no better by the behind the scenes tumult concerning the script where EVERYONE was supposed to betray him.

But it’s still entertaining despite being awful. I can’t say the same for Insurrection, which I just found plain insulting to everything I stand for, but I understand why others would disagree with me there.
